Half Black Mimic Tangs resemble the Half Black Pygmy Angel in coloration with a beige body with black trim. This coloration changes as the fish matures to all brown with a gray face and a black band that curves over the gill cover. They need lots of algae and greens in their diet to keep them healthy, but will eat meaty foods as well. Algae can be provided in the form of dried marine algae on clips as a frequent treat, or through live algae grown in the tank or in a refugium. Tangs are generally community fish and get along with most other tank mates. They do not bother corals and can actually help keep nuisance algae trimmed and under control. Tangs sometimes get territorial and aggressive towards similar tank mates, so use caution when keeping these fish together. This environment will also lend itself to algae growth which tangs enjoy grazing on, making them a valuable addition to a reef environment.A proper diet for this fish will consist of herbivore preparations, spirulina, enriched mysid and brine, pellets and flakes.
