Description

The Diamond Goby, Valenciennea puellaris, also known as the Pretty Prawn, Orange-Spotted Diamond Goby or the Orange-Spotted Sleeper Goby, features small brilliant orange diamond shapes across is fluorescent white body. They are one of the most beautiful species of goby for the home aquarium. Reaching a max size of 6″, one should be kept in a tank no smaller than 30 gallons. A larger tank is needed if keeping a mated pair.

The Diamond Goby is constantly sifting through the sand to help keep it aerated, therefore a tank with a deep sandy substrate is recommended. They are also known for jumping, so a tightly fitting lid is necessary for the tank these gobies are kept in. They are peaceful and can be kept with other peaceful and reef safe fish. Though they can be territorial with other burrowing gobies, so they are best kept individually, or as a mated pair.

The Diamond Goby is hardy, easy to care for, and disease resistant. They will eat a carnivorous diet including both mysis and brine shrimp, as well as sift through the sand and scavenge. They will thrive in a temperature range of 72-78°F and a pH of 8.1-8.4.
