The Red Breasted Wrasse, Cheilinus fasciatus, also known as the Red-Breasted Wrasse, Red Breast Wrasse, Banded Maori Wrasse, Floral Wrasse, Red Breasted Maori Wrasse. This Wrasse is a very large and beautiful fish. They have a mostly tan to brown body with strong white stripes and red markings around its eyes. Red Breasted Wrasse can grow to be 16 inches, and should be kept in a tank no less than 180 gallons. The tank should also have a lot of live rock which will allow your Red Breasted Wrasse to take cover if they feel threatened. They also have the ability to rearrange your rockwork, so take that into consideration as well. The Red Breasted Wrasse are a peaceful fish, but they should be added to a reef tank with caution. As they will not bother any Coral, Red Breasted Wrasse when larger may go after smaller fish and some inverts. The Red Breasted Wrasse should only be kept with peaceful to semi-aggressive fish since they are peaceful fish. The rock will also provide lots of small meals for the Red Breasted Wrasse to eat between feedings. Red Breasted Wrasses do have the ability to rearrange your rockwork, so take that into consideration as well. They should be fed a carnivorous diet , consisting of meaty foods such as Mysis and Brine shrimp, high quality meaty frozen foods and plankton. They will thrive in a temperature range of 74-82° F and a pH of 8.1-8.4.
