Description
The Watanabei Angelfish, Genicanthus watanabei, is also known as Watanabe’s Angelfish, Black Edged Angelfish, Blackedged Angel, and Watanabe’s Angel. It is native to the waters of the South Pacific and western Indian Ocean. Often found in pairs of up to five members with one male and multiple females, the Watanabei Angel is one of the few species to exhibit sexual dimorphism. Females lack a horizontal stripe over its dorsal and anal fins that males possess. Two males should not be kept together.
The Watanabei Angel is best kept in a tank of at least 120 gallons with plenty of live rock. They will not bother corals or inverts and are generally peaceful with other fish species. They will eat an omnivorous diet of meaty foods and algae based preparations. The Watanabei Angelfish will thrive in temperatures in range of 72-78° F and a pH of 8.1-8.4.
