The Flametail Blenny, Enchelyurus flavipes , also known as the Golden Tailed Black Blenny, Yellowtail Blenny, and the Yellow Tail Black Blenny. This Blenny has a characteristic yellow dorsal fin coupled with jet black body. It is one of the most stunning species of blenny available in the aquarium trade. The Flametail Blenny is peaceful, and should be housed with other peaceful tank mates. However it may behave aggressively towards firefish gobies and other smaller blennies. They will grow up to 4 inches, and should be kept in a tank no less than 30 gallons if housing one, and no less than 50 gallons for two. The tank should also have with plenty of live rock to graze for algae between meals, and to perch upon and to provide hiding places, the tank should also have a tightly secured lid to prevent escape by jumping. The Flametail Blenny should be fed an herbivore diet, consisting of macro algae, such as Macro Feast, and dry seaweed 1-2 times per week. The best way to get this Blenny to eat, is to simulate actual seaweed growth, by placing the seaweed in the tank, and attaching it by Rubber band to live rock. Overall, this is an excellent choice for beginner aquarists as it is peaceful, productive, beautiful, and easy to care for. The Flametail Blenny will thrive in temperatures ranging from 75-80°F and a pH of 8.1-8.4.
