About SPS Corals

SPS corals, such as Acropora, Montipora, and Stylophora, are prized for their structure, vibrant coloration, and growth potential. These corals are best suited for experienced reefers ready to maintain the stable parameters SPS demand.

Lighting & Flow

SPS corals require strong lighting (typically from LED, T5, or metal halide systems) and high, turbulent flow. Adequate light intensity and consistent flow help prevent tissue recession and promote vibrant growth.

• Temperature: 76–78°F
• Salinity: 1.025–1.026
• pH: 8.0–8.4
• Alkalinity: 8.5–9.5 dKH
• Calcium: 420–450 ppm
• Magnesium: 1300–1400 ppm
• Nitrates: 2–10 ppm
• Phosphates: 0.03–0.1 ppm

Feeding & Growth

While SPS corals rely heavily on photosynthesis, they benefit from occasional fine-particle feeding with amino acids, coral foods, or zooplankton. Good nutrient balance helps enhance color and growth rate.
