The Leopard Wrasse is an active and peaceful fish. It should be provided with plenty of hiding places, make sure to add many live rocks in the tank before adding this fish. The Leopard Wrasse quickly acclimatizes to its surroundings and needs open space in the tank to swim. It can be kept in groups, and its diet should include fresh or frozen seafood such as mysis and brine shrimp, with high quality flake food, and other small meaty items. At night, the Leopard Wrasse requires a sand bed of minimum 4 inches to dive in. Also, the sand bed affords it an excellent place to avoid predators. It also needs lot of live rocks, caves in the tank, and is considered reef safe. The Leopard Wrasse grows up to 6 inches, and is sometimes difficult to care and maintain, thus making it a choice for an advanced aquarist only. It thrives well in a temperature range of 74-80 degrees Fahrenheit and pH of 8.1-8.4, and should be kept in a tank of minimum 50 gallon. These fish are born as females and as they grow they change to males. Once acclimatized it can be kept for 5 years or more if fed and cared properly. The Leopard Wrasse is not compatible with frogfish, pipefish, puffers, seahorses, as well as triggerfish, instead consider angelfish, dwarf fish, blennies, boxfishes, butterflies, and dottybacks. With its unique body marking similar to a leopard, the Leopard Wrasse is named aptly and makes a captivating addition to any tank. The Leopard Wrasse might jump out of the aquarium, so we recommend you to keep it in a covered aquarium to avoid any unnecessary accidents.
