The Tobacco Basslet, Serranus tabcarius, is commonly referred to as the Tobacco Fish and the Tobacco Bass. With its light gray colored body along with black and silver mottled pattern on the top which are split from each other by an orange band, the Tobacco Basslet makes a gorgeous addition to any tank. The Tobacco Basslet can grow to be 7 inches in length, and should be kept in a tank no smaller than 70 gallons. It is semi-aggressive in nature, and should not be housed with small, peaceful fish, especially Damselfish, Gobies, and Blennies, it also poses a threat to small Crustaceans and Shrimp. It is best if the Tobacco Basslet is introduced into the aquarium at the same time as other fish.
