Description

The Arrowhead Basslet, Belonoperca chabanaudi, also known as the Arrowhead Soapfish is a species of basslet that is largely a dark brown/black color with dark spots, one yellow splotch near its anal fin, and a luminescent blue dorsal fin. The Arrowhead Basslet is a very rare and not often seen Basslet in home aquariums, this Basslet is a great example of a unique fish that many aquarists would not think of as a suitable aquarium species. However, like most other basslets, the Arrowhead Basslet has a large mouth and is capable of preying on small fish and invertebrates so it must be kept in a community tank with extreme caution. They are better kept with larger, more aggressive species. Although sometimes aggressive and a voracious eater, the Arrowhead Basslet is hardy, and should be kept on a carnivorous diet consisting of frozen brine or mysis shrimp, or frozen clams or squid. If kept in a pairing, it is best to introduce them at the same time, to avoid aggression. The Arrowhead Basslet can grow to be up to 6 inches, and should be kept in large tanks allowing them plenty of open swimming space in the water column. In a tank no less than 75 gallons if kept individually, and no less than 140 if kept in a pair. They will thrive in temperatures of 74-82°F and a pH of 8.1-8.4.
