Description
The Yellow Fin Fairy Wrasse, Cirrhilabrus flavidorsalis, also known as the Yellowfin Fairy Wrasse and the Millennium Wrasse, has a characteristic bright yellow dorsal fin, a luxuriant pink and white body, and sometimes can have a light blue caudal fin. Often times the white and pink body forms large stripe-like patterns giving the Yellow Fin Fairy Wrasse even more vivid colorations. This fish has the unique ability to change its color depending on its mood and age. Females have similar colors and patterns with the addition of a spot near the anal fin – though females are not commonly found in the aquarium trade.
Similar to most wrasses, the Yellow Fin Fairy Wrasse should be kept in a tank with a nice sandy substrate as well as plentiful amounts of live rock allowing the wrasse to hide and explore. It is important that the tank has a tightly secured lid to prevent potential escapes. They eat a carnivorous diet consisting of zooplankton, brine and mysis shrimp, copepods as well as quality pellet and flake food. The Yellow Fin Fairy Wrasse should be fed several times a day. This is a reef-safe species with most fish including other wrasses, but should not be kept with members of its own species unless in a 150 gallon or more tank. It should not be paired with aggressive and territorial fish.
Overall the Yellow Fin Fairy Wrasse is a spectacular fish for beginner or expert aquarists alike because they are hardy, relatively easy to keep, and incredibly active in the tank making for a fascinating specimen to watch.
