The Yellowhead Butterfly, Chaetodon xanthocephalus, also also known as the Xanthocephalus Butterfly features a gorgeous white and yellow body with a distinct yellow head. Not too many Butterflyfish species have a completely yellow head and face making this species quite unique. Its dorsal and anal fins are also yellow but a more muted mustard color.
Yellowhead Butterflyfish Care Facts:
- best kept in a tank of at least 125 gallons (if an individual) or 175 gallons (if multiples)
- tanks should have plenty of live rock hiding places and open swimming space
- if keeping multiples, they should be introduced at the same time to curb potential aggression
- the Yellowhead Butterfly may nip on sessile inverts and corals, but they will also beneficially eat up excess algae in the tank
- they will feed on a varied omnivorous diet 2-3 times per day
- when paired with other Butterflyfish species, they may become hostile so proceed with caution
