About Mushroom & Soft Corals

Mushrooms and soft corals are known for their flowing movement, bold colors, and hardy nature. They’re ideal for both beginners and experienced reef keepers, adding texture and motion to any saltwater aquarium. Common varieties include Ricordea, Discosoma, and Rhodactis mushrooms, as well as star polyps, leathers, and clove polyps.

Lighting & Flow

These corals prefer low to moderate light and gentle to moderate water flow. Strong currents can cause them to retract or detach, while too little flow may allow detritus to build up on their surfaces.

• pH: 8.0–8.4
• Alkalinity: 8–10 dKH
• Calcium: 400–450 ppm
• Magnesium: 1250–1350 ppm

Feeding & Growth

Mushroom and soft corals are photosynthetic but benefit from occasional feeding. Spot-feed with reef-safe foods like reef roids, phytoplankton, or finely chopped meaty foods once or twice a week to promote faster growth and intense coloration.
