The ORA® Captive-Bred Blue Fin Watchman Goby makes a great addition that injects uncommon visual interest and activity to the lower regions of your aquarium. Until recently, the Blue Fin Watchman Goby remained relatively unknown in the aquarium trade but with advances in aquaculture, we are proud to offer hobbyists this wonderful, captive-bred choice.
The ORA Captive-Bred Blue Fin Watchman Goby, also known as the Y-Bar Shrimp Goby, is a handsome fish demonstrating attractive mottled banding and a body adorned with beautiful iridescent blue spots. This iridescent blue coloration is also displayed on its second dorsal fin and anal fin as blue bars adding an unexpected flash of color. As a cryptic species, its base coloration is subject to change; lightening or darkening depending on the environment, substrate coloration, or even mood.
As a cousin to the flamboyantly-colored Yellow Prawn Goby the ORA Captive-Bred Blue Fin Watchman Goby will also actively roam and sift the substrate in search for food. Similarly, the ORA Captive-Bred Blue Fin Watchman Goby may form a symbiotic relationship with a compatible snapping shrimp.
The ideal setup for the ORA Captive-Bred Blue Fin Watchman Goby is a well-established 30 gallon or larger aquarium with coarse coralline-encrusted rubble and live sand as the substrate. In addition to a sand bottom for burrowing, be sure to provide ample swimming room as well. A well-sealed canopy should also be provided, as the ORA Captive-Bred Blue Fin Watchman Goby is capable of leaping out of the aquarium. The ORA Captive-Bred Blue Fin Watchman Goby is non-aggressive towards other fish but will demonstrate territorial behavior and fight with its own kind unless they are a mated pair.
As the ORA Captive-Bred Blue Fin Watchman Goby sifts through mouthfuls of substrate, it feeds on food items that live within the sand. This natural feeding behavior has the added benefit of keeping the substrate well oxygenated. Consider a populated attached refugium to provide an important, continuous live food source for the ORA Captive-Bred Blue Fin Watchman Goby.
The diet of the ORA Captive-Bred Blue Fin Watchman Goby should include a variety of foods designed for carnivores. The ORA Captive-bred Blue Fin Watchman Goby should be fed at least twice per day.
