How this works
Salinity uses the UNESCO seawater density equation, not a straight-line shortcut, so SG and ppt agree across the whole range. Alkalinity: 1 meq/L = 2.8 dKH = 50 ppm CaCO₃. Phosphorus to phosphate is × 3.066, nitrate-nitrogen to nitrate is × 4.427.

Why does my Hanna phosphorus checker read so high?
The ultra-low-range checker reads phosphorus in ppb, not phosphate in ppm. 50 ppb P is about 0.15 ppm POâ‚„.
Is 1.025 the same as 35 ppt?
Close but not quite. 35 ppt reads 1.0264 on a refractometer calibrated at 77°F.
