How this works
Density comes from the UNESCO 1980 equation of state for seawater, the same reference oceanographers use. Specific gravity is that density divided by pure water at the reference temperature.

Why do two instruments give different SG?
They are calibrated at different temperatures. Compare readings in ppt instead.
Does temperature change salinity?
No. Salinity is the salt content. Temperature only changes density, and so the SG reading.
