Alkalinity Dosing Calculator
Bring alkalinity up without a swing. We split big corrections across days.
How this works
Every product label says how much one ml (or gram) raises one gallon. We divide the change you need by that strength and by your volume: dose = (target − current) × gallons ÷ label strength. For powders, 1 dKH in one US gallon takes 0.114 g of baking soda or 0.072 g of soda ash. We cap a day at 1.4 dKH and split anything bigger.
Questions
Baking soda or soda ash?
Baking soda lowers pH a little, soda ash raises it. Use soda ash if your pH runs low, and dose it slowly; it is strong.
Can I dose alkalinity and calcium together?
Not into the same spot. Dose them at different times or in different parts of the sump so they do not precipitate.
Rather have us dial it in?
Frags2Fishes service techs test, dose and maintain reef tanks across PA, MD, DE, NJ and VA, and beyond.
