What Are LPS Corals?
LPS (Large Polyp Stony) corals—like hammer, frogspawn, chalice, candy cane, and brain corals—feature prominent fleshy polyps with a hard, calcium-based skeleton. They add dynamic movement and vibrant color to any reef tank.

Light & Flow:
Provide moderate lighting and gentle to moderate flow. Too much current can damage delicate tissue, while too little can lead to detritus buildup.

These stony corals benefit from stable, reef-ready conditions:

• Salinity: 1.025–1.026
• pH: 8.0–8.4
• Alkalinity: 8–10 dKH
• Calcium: 400–450 ppm
• Magnesium: 1250–1350 ppm

Feed to Thrive:
Spot-feeding with meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, zooplankton, or reef roids 2–3 times per week encourages polyp expansion and vibrant growth. While LPS corals receive energy from light, supplemental feeding improves coloration, health, and long-term success.
