Waitei (Sherbert) Anthias – Marshall Island
The Waitei Anthias, Luzonichthys waitei, also known as the Magenta Slender Anthias is a rather uncommon anthias species for the home aquarium with an unforgettable orange/magenta/purple coloration. The Waitei Anthias is not found often in the aquarium trade but brightens up any tank once introduced. They are best suited for aquariums with other peaceful fish, especially at the beginning of their introduction as they may be shy. The Waitei Anthias should be kept away from other larger, more aggressive anthias species. However, like most anthias species, the Waitei Anthias is hermaphroditic. They can be kept in a harem of one male to many females. If that male dies, the next dominant female will assume leadership of the group and morph into a male. The Waitei Anthias enjoys live rock to create crevices for it to hide. They should be kept in a tank no smaller than 50 gallons if kept individually, and no less than 120 if kept as a group. Once acclimated, the Waitei Anthias will eat most frozen meaty foods as well as dry herbivorous foods. They will also thrive in a temperature range of 72-78° F and a pH of 8.1-8.4.
