Radial Filefish are native to the Western Pacific from the northern coast of Australia through the Ryukyu Islands of Japan and throughout Indonesia west to New Caledonia. The parents of the ORA Captive-Bred Radial Filefish have travelled many miles before being introduced into ORA’s breeding program. Their travels began when collected around Cebu in the Philippines. Next they were flown 7,340 miles across the Pacific Ocean to a facility in Los Angeles, California where they were looked after, fed and cared for before continuing their journey onto Rhinelander, Wisconsin another 1,727 miles. LiveAquaria’s Kevin Kohen then took them under his expert care for the next couple of years ending their travel plans at ORA’s facility another 1,353 miles. This pair of Radial Filefish quickly became active, happy and producing the newest edition to ORA’s list of Captive-Bred fish.
The Captive-Bred Radial Filefish has a unique advantage over wild-harvested species. Captive-Bred Filefish are very hardy and more accustomed to conditions found in home aquariums. Therefore, it makes a great choice for novices and seasoned aquarists alike.
Captive-Bred Radial Filefish readily accept a variety of foods, including frozen and pelleted diets. ORA was delighted to find the juvenile Radial Filefish to be as reef safe as the ORA Whitespotted Filefish. However, care should be taken to observe them as they may casually nip at corals.
