The Niger Trigger, Odonus niger, is a wonderfully colored triggerfish that is relatively peaceful. Its deep turquoise/grey body with neon blue face lining make for a stunning addition to any reef tank. They can be housed as multiples if introduced together to avoid territorialism. Sometimes, the Niger Trigger can be caught nipping on small ornamental shrimp and other inverts.
It is necessary to be cautious while handling the Niger Trigger because they have sharp teeth and can actually bite if agitated. They need at least a 55 gallons tank and a larger tank if more are to be kept. Tanks should have plenty of rock work and free swimming space. The Niger Trigger will primarily eat a omnivorous diet consisting of varied frozen meaty foods and algae based flakes.
