The ORA® Elephant Ear Mushroom coral is an easier-to-care-for soft coral perfect for both novices and seasoned reef keepers. Featuring a lovely mint green coloration, the ORA® Elephant Ear Mushroom coral injects fantastic color to your reef aquarium landscape. Under actinic light, Elephant Ear Mushroom corals will fluoresce to an exotic neon green coloration that provides fantastic visual interest. With its wrinkled, leather-like texture it’s easy to understand how it received its common name “Elephant Ear.” Reaching a potential size of four or more inches in diameter, the ORA® Elephant Ear Mushroom coral is also elephant-like in size among mushroom corals.
Similar in needs as other mushroom corals, Elephant Ear Mushroom corals are very easy to maintain in the reef aquarium, preferring a mature system with a low to medium light level combined with a low to medium water movement. The ORA® Elephant Ear Mushroom coral is fairly forgiving when it comes to water quality as it prefers slightly nutrient-rich water. Elephant Ear Mushroom corals are semi-aggressive and require adequate space between itself and other corals. It reproduces through longitudinal fission, but also can be easily propagated (fragged) by experienced reef hobbyists.
The symbiotic algae zooxanthellae hosted within the ORA® Elephant Ear Mushroom coral satisfies the majority of its nutritional requirements from the light driven process of photosynthesis. The ORA® Elephant Ear Mushroom coral also feeds on other nutrients and particulate matter and benefits from additional food in the form of micro-plankton or brine shrimp fed to each polyp of the colony.
