The Bicolor Anthias, Pseudanthias bicolor, commonly referred to as the Fancy Bass or the Fancy Bass Anthias, is a semi-aggressive anthias species that should be kept with other semi-aggressive tank mates in a tank with plenty of live rock, free swimming space, and a sandy substrate. They will not bother invertebrates or corals. The Bicolor Anthias will feed on a carnivorous diet three times per day. They are best kept in groups of one male and five or more females. Male Bicolor Anthias are much more colorful and often have filamentous streamers which it uses for its mating dance and to deter other males. Anthias species all share the trait of being hermaphroditic. If a dominant male perishes, the largest female of the group will often morph to take its place. The Bicolor Anthias thrives well in a temperature range of 72-78° F and pH of 8.1-8.4.
